What items are in a typical cocktail set?

If you're looking to make impressive cocktails at home, you need the right tools. A typical cocktail set contains a few basic items, such as a shaker, strainer, jigger, bar spoon, and a muddler. When used properly, these tools can help you whip up delicious cocktails with ease.

The shaker is arguably the most important tool. It's used to mix drinks by vigorously agitating them. Shakers come in a variety of styles and sizes, with the most common being the two-piece Boston shaker. This type consists of two tins; one large and one small. The smaller tin fits inside the larger one to create an airtight seal and facilitate intense shaking.

Cocktail strainers are essential for straining out ice cubes or making sure pure liquid reaches the glass. There are several types of strainer available; a julep strainer is ideal for drinks stirred in a larger tin or bowl and a Hawthorne strainer for completing those made shaken in separate tins. A fine mesh strainer is also useful for filtering out smaller particles from drinks such as syrups or puréed fruit pieces.

Jiggers are essential for measuring out exact quantities of spirits or other ingredients into your cocktails. They usually consist of two opposing conical cups that fit inside each other or on top of each other allowing different volumes to be measured quickly and easily. Jiggers come in all shapes and sizes but most are designed to measure between 15ml – 30ml at each side; ideal for about any type of drink you're likely to make at home.

Bar spoons have long handles which enable them to reach the bottom of even tall cocktail glasses when mixing ingredients together; this makes them great for stirring drinks like martinis or Manhattans that require careful layering of ingredients before serving them into the glass without spilling or mixing it up too much directly in it while doing so. They may also be used with muddlers (see below) when crushing fruits, herbs and spices into finer particles before adding these into drinks..

The final item everyone interested in frequently making cocktails should get themselves is a muddler - an implement designed specifically for crushing solids like fruits, herbs and spices into smaller granules so as to better infuse their flavors into your concoctions without having to settle with sour taste from any piles of large chunks being left behind while sipping it down later on when drinking them (Example: Mojitos). Muddlers come in different shapes but the most common ones are those made out from wood with ridged end which makes extracting essence from whatever it's been mashed up against much easier than many more modernized ones made from plastic etc..
